Q: What role does a doula play during birth?

A birth doula is a member of your birth support team who provides ongoing emotional, informational and physical support through pain management techniques before, during and immediately following labor & delivery. Doulas help women have autonomous, empowering and trauma-free birth experiences.

Q: What are the benefits of hiring a doula?

Research shows 6 benefits of hiring a doula:

  • 39% decrease in risk of unplanned cesarean delivery Shorter labors (YAY)

  • 15% increase in likelihood of spontaneous vaginal delivery

  • 38% decrease in baby’s risk of a low 5 minute Apgar score.

Q: Where did you receive your training?

I have been trained through DONA international. I am currently pursuing certification which requires that I attend a handful of births as the led doula.

Q: What is my philosophy about birth?

First and foremost this is your birth, not mine. I will be there to support your decisions. I want you to feel comfortable, confident and supported about whatever you choose for yourself and your baby during pregnancy, labor and delivery.

Q: How does a birth doula work with my partner?

A common concern is “will be partner feel left out?” Many families worry that a doula will take the role of the partner, when our role actually supports them as well. Your partner knows you better than anyone. Even if they are not sure how to support you, they know your fears, preferences, and desires. Doulas will work with your partner encouraging them, offering guidance and suggestions when needed.

Q: Will a doula be useful if I need medication or if I have a cesarean?

Absolutely! Doulas support all types of births. While you may not require much physical pain relief support, doulas there are emotional and informational ways your doula can support you.
